"Celebrating our 30th Year of Teaching Safety
in the Amusement Industry"

ABOUT THE SAFETY SEMINAR

Started by Chance Rides, Inc. over a quarter century ago, our annual Safety Seminar has always been considered the best in the industry. Hundreds of classes are offered each year, taught by top professionals from our industry, to create a full week of classes for the participants.

The purpose of the amusement industry seminar is to provide safety education and information, and to promote safety awareness for operations, maintenance, manufacturing, and inspection personnel who work with theme parks, carnivals, water parks, family entertainment centers or amusement parks.

Classes are designed around several tracks:

  • Operations/Water Park
  • Operations/Amusement Rides & Devices
  • Operations/Family Entertainment Center
  • Loss Prevention/Inspectors
  • Maintenance
  • Design/Manufacturer

So Please Hop On! Have Fun! Ride Safely! Contact us for a free brochure on safety or help yourself to one of our Newton Shows Safety brochures on display at any of our show ticket office locations.

GENERAL SAFETY TIPS

  • READ posted rules.
  • OBSERVE age, height and weight restrictions.
  • FOLLOW instructions of ride operator.
  • KEEP hands, arms and legs inside ride at all times.
  • USE safety equipment such as a seat belt, shoulder harness, lap bar or chain when provided.
  • STAY in ride until it comes to a complete stop.

SAFETY TIPS FOR PARENTS

To ensure the safety of a child, particularly a small child, several steps should be taken. Before placing the child on an amusement ride, a parent relying on his or her knowledge of their child's capabilities should assume an active role in determining whether or not a particular ride is appropriate for the child.

Common Sense Steps May Make the Difference

  • WATCH the ride in operation and make sure your child can ride it safely. OBSERVE the operator.
  • EXPLAIN to the child about appropriate behavior: keeping hands and feet inside, sitting down, holding on, and obeying the ride operator's instructions.
  • DO NOT force your child to ride if he or she is frightened. A scared child on the ground may well panic in the air.

CARNIVAL AND FAIRS GENERAL SAFETY

The following tips will help keep your family's trip to the park, fair, or carnival an enjoyable experience.

  • Designate an easily recognizable place to meet your child in the case of separation in a crowd.
  • Because it is difficult to control children in such an exciting environment, try to have an adult supervise every two children.
  • Wear sensible clothes and shoes.
  • Carnivals and fairs are usually on rough ground and because it is a temporary situation cables and hoses are laid on top of the ground and so the whole area is a small obstacle course.
